  • The Mission Continues

As in the past so it remains today - we were and still are under the selfsame commitment to adhere to the directions of the Gedolei Yisrael, who stand guard against breaches of purity threatening our camp. When we were required to ask – we asked. When we were instructed to depart – we left. The moment we are summoned back to raise the flag, every other consideration is pushed to the side and we answer: We are ready!

Satmar Yom HaHatzalah Celebrated Together with Huge Dinner

Satmar Chassidim celebrated the Day of Rescue of the Rebbe ztz"l together with a huge dinner on Tuesday night.

Yosef Feffer, New York 09/12/2009 17:30
Thousands of Satmar Chassidim celebrated the Yom HaHatzalah (Day of Rescue) last night in the huge Western Plaza Hall, led by the Admor of Satmar shlita. It was the 65th anniversary of the rescue of Harav Hakadosh Rabbi Yoel of Satmar zy”a, who was saved from the valley of death and fled to Switzerland.

As is done every year, the celebration was held along with the annual dinner for the Williamsburg Satmar institutions, in which about eight thousand students are educated.

In the early evening, people started arriving at the especially prepared hall, located in a huge building five minutes from Williamsburg. Askanim labored to receive all the guests of honor and find everyone a respectable place to sit.

The occasion was planned with a full agenda and content, with famous darshanim. The attendees listened to their words with thirst until midnight.

Cantor Rabbi Yaakov Yosef Stark, one of the parents of students, performed accompanied by a chorus of Satmar Chassidim.

The sefer “Nikiei HaDaas sh’b’Yerushalayim” was distributed to the guests. It contained a treasury of stories from elders of Jerusalem about the period when the Satmar Rebbe ztz’l lived in Jerusalem, in 5706 (1946) and his later visits in 5712, 5715, 5719, and 5725.

The chassid Rabbi Meir Snitzler, the Satmar Rebbe’s shamash, hosted the event and spoke about the huge miracle and the subsequent expansion of Satmar institutions, as they marked sixty years since its founding, in 5710-11.

The General Director of the Mosdos, Rabbi Chaim Yitzchok Mandel, detailed what is happening in the institutions, and told about the plans to build a new building for education for girls. The cost of the building, he said, will be $20 million.

Harav Rabbi Shlomo Yaakov Gelbman shlita, author of the biographical book about the Rebbe, "Moshian shel Yisrael," gave a drashah in honor of the philanthropic family from Belle Harbor, the Kreusmans, the important niggidim Amram Moshe (Michael) Kenig, Rabbi Hanoch Zundel (Alex) Brookstein, and his son Rabbi Yosha (Steve) Kreusman, who received the award "Achsania shel Tzaddik" because in 5728 they gave their apartment in Belle Harbor to the Rebbe ztz”l so he could recover after suffering a stroke.

After the family received the award, the nagged Rabbi Hanoch Zundel (Alex) Brookstein, the guest of honor, told emotionally moving stories of the Kreusman’s family's connection to Sigut Satmar in general and to the Rebbe ztz"l in particular.

Then Harav Rabbi Naftali Elimelech Weiss, a leading American askan, one of the outstanding disciples of Hagaon Rabbi Yehuda Segal ztz"l, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Manchester, came to introduce the speaker Hagaon Rabbi Avraham Erentrau shlita, Rosh Yeshivas Etz Chaim Vilrik in Antwerp, the favorite grandson of Maran Rosh Yeshivas Manchester.

The address of honor was lengthy and left a great impression with attendees. He concentrated on strengthening the Torah, and spoke about the relationship of his grandfather Hagaon Rabbi Yehuda Segal with Maran the Admor of Satmar ztz”l.

It was quiet in the hall when the Admor of Satmar shlita began his holy words, in which he said words of drush, and spoke in praise of the institutions, such as the extent of the Torah study in the chedeir; he also used the time to raise the issue of various matters that need rectification.

The Rebbe shlita referred mostly to the painful problems in education for boys and also for adults that come in the wake of sophisticated technology. Immediately after his holy words they began a chassidic dance of joy, as the chassidim gave praise and thanksgiving to the Creator for all the chessed He did when the Rebbe ztz’l was released by the Nazis ym’sh.

After Birchat Hazaon and Sheva Berachos for a few chatanim of the Yeshivah, the chassidim accompanied the Rebbe shlita to his car with singing and dancing, and with that exhilarating event ended. It will be spoken about for a long time.
