Kuwait Newspaper: Gilad Shalit in Egypt
Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida reported Thursday that Schalit had been transferred to Egypt in recent days, hidden in a tourist bus with blackened windows, in preparation for the prisoner exchange. In Cairo, he is held a secret location under the supervision of the head of Hamas's military power, Ahmed Jabari.
Last night was reported in the London based newspaper Al Quds Al Arabi that Shalit will be held in Egypt as insurance until all the Hamas prisoners are released. Other media outlets suggested the same and added that Shalit may "suddenly pop up behind the back of all the media."
Meanwhile, yesterday a delegation of Hamas leaders went to Lebanon. According to the report, Hamas is consulting with Hezbollah regarding the deal. Politburo head Khaled Mashaal clarified that his organization "learned from Hezbollah’s experience how to get a high price for the deal.”
According to Palestinian officials, the last two days are critical to sign the deal. Minister for Prisoner Affairs in the Palestinian Authority said that Marwan Barghouti and Ahmed Saadat resolutely refuse to be deported if released. "The prisoners' exchange deal between Hamas and Israel has reached a very advanced stage," he said in an interview, "Now the barrier is Israel's insistence to deport 12 prisoners abroad.”
However, according to Israel Radio, Hamas spokesman Abu Khaled, speaking in Damascus, said the release of Schalit may still be some way away. Abu Khaled reportedly said it was not at all clear that a deal was close at hand. "Such leaks are coming from Israel," he insisted.
