Birkat HaCohenim for the Baby after Milah
As the custom of Jarbah dictates, immediately after a brit milah ceremony, all the Cohenim who are present for the event approach the baby and bless him with Birkat HaCohenim.
Rabbis and important guests participated in the brit milah ceremony for the great-grandson of the gaon Rabbi Sa'adiya Ben-David, shlita, and grandson of the gaon Rabbi Chaim Cohen, ztz"l, Rosh Yeshivat "Orchot Moshe" and founder of the Torah center "Chochmat Rachamim" in Moshav Brachiya. This week marks a year since the petirah of Rabbi Cohen.
The brit milah celebration took place in the "Aderet" hall in Ashdod. The baby's grandfather, Rabbi Mordechai Cohen, a rabbi in Beitar, was honored as sandak. Rabbi Avraham Cohen, great-grandson of the gaon, the holy Rabbi Calphon Moshe HaCohen, Ravad of Jarbah, was honored with reciting the blessings.
The mohel was a family friend, the rabbi of Netivot, the gaon Rabbi Pinchas Cohen, shlita. The guests grew particularly emotional when the baby received his name: Chaim, n"y. He was named after his father's father. Immediately after the bris milah was performed, the numerous Cohenim who were present for the event raised their hands and blessed the tiny infant with Birkat HaCohenim, as is the custom of Jews from Jarbah.
The seudat mitzvah was attended by rabbis, who spoke words of Torah in honor of the celebration. The gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Aberjel, Rosh Collel "Torah V'Chessed", and the gaon Rabbi Chananel HaCohen, Rosh Yeshivat "Orchot Moshe", were among the rabbis who spoke during the meal.
