  • The Mission Continues

As in the past so it remains today - we were and still are under the selfsame commitment to adhere to the directions of the Gedolei Yisrael, who stand guard against breaches of purity threatening our camp. When we were required to ask – we asked. When we were instructed to depart – we left. The moment we are summoned back to raise the flag, every other consideration is pushed to the side and we answer: We are ready!

Disabled IDF Veterans Blocked the Kaplan Intersection and Burned Tires

Disabled IDF soldiers blocked the intersection near the Kirya in Tel Aviv, and burnt tires, in protest of government violation of their rights.

The struggle of the disabled IDF soldiers is gaining momentum. A week ago, hundreds of disabled veterans engaged in acts of protest, and today they blocked the intersections at Rechov Kaplan and Rechov Menachem Begin in Tel Aviv, near the Kirya. Policemen were on the scene, but did not clash with the demonstrators. The disabled IDF soldiers burnt tires and threatened to block the entrance to the Ayalon Highway – a thoroughfare that is usually backed up, even without the interference of demonstrators.

Border Guards that were called as reinforcements after the demonstrators began to burn tires, physically blocked with their bodies the access road to the southbound lanes of the Ayalon Highway. The demonstrators sat down in the middle of the road, preventing traffic from exiting the Ayalon Highway to Rechov Givat HaTachmoshet. In addition, they blocked the entrance to the highway from that same road.

On Derech HaShalom, on Rechov Kaplan, and on Ayalon Darom, there were major traffic jams. Ayalon Tzafon was not affected by the demonstration. Police did not contend with the demonstrators, and did not make any attempt to move them off the road.

The recent demonstrations conducted by the disabled IDF soldiers commenced after the head of the the Disabled Veterans' Association claimed that the Defense Ministry was placing bureaucratic obstacles in their way and forcing many veterans to undergo a long and complicated process before being recognized as eligible for government benefits.
