  • The Mission Continues

As in the past so it remains today - we were and still are under the selfsame commitment to adhere to the directions of the Gedolei Yisrael, who stand guard against breaches of purity threatening our camp. When we were required to ask – we asked. When we were instructed to depart – we left. The moment we are summoned back to raise the flag, every other consideration is pushed to the side and we answer: We are ready!

Proposed Bill: Remove the Restriction for Owning a Car from Welfare Recipients

A proposed bill that will allow guaranteed income allowances for the owner of an old car was approved by the Ministerial Committee for a preliminary Knesset reading.

A bill filed by MK Rabbi Amnon Cohen (Shas) is an amendment to the law of guaranteed income allowances that the owner of an old car may receive payments; it was approved by the Ministerial Committee for a preliminary Knesset reading.

Until now, income support recipients were restricted from owning vehicles unless the vehicle was an old model and with an engine less than 1600 cc. The requirement sought to ensure that the vehicle held by recipients of income support would be a modest one for basic uses alone.

The proposal allows eligibility for income support for those with a private car more than seven years old regardless of the volume of the engine, but with respect to the value which will not exceed NIS 30,000.

Kollel avreichim who receive income support (which is transferred from the Ministry of Education’s budget) are not eligible to own any vehicle. MK Cohen stated that in preparing the law in committee he will ask that the avreichim also be included in the new definition of the law of income support.
