The President condemned those responsible for the recent arson of the Kfar Yassouf mosque. "The event contradicts the principles of the State of Israel"

Israeli President Shimon Peres condemned those responsible for the recent arson of the Kfar Yassouf mosque in a speech this motzaei Shabbos. In his statement, he said that the event contradicts the principles of the State of Israel and its obligation to respect all religions.

"The government, the security forces and the law enforcement institutions must act immediately to find those responsible for the terrible deed and put them on trial", Peres said. "It is unacceptable that a group of fanatics will undermine the State of Israel's obligation to respect all religions".

On Friday afternoon, a group of settlers set fire on a mosque in Kfar Yassouf in the West Bank. The settlers painted graffiti on the walls of the mosque and destroyed expensive equipment.

The arson act aroused an international wave of condemnation. The American Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the act and released a statement calling for the people behind the arson to be put on trial.
