  • The Mission Continues

As in the past so it remains today - we were and still are under the selfsame commitment to adhere to the directions of the Gedolei Yisrael, who stand guard against breaches of purity threatening our camp. When we were required to ask – we asked. When we were instructed to depart – we left. The moment we are summoned back to raise the flag, every other consideration is pushed to the side and we answer: We are ready!

New Sefer: "Chanukas Avraham"

Harav Avraham Ravitz z’l was singular and unique during his lifetime, and after his death the sefer written in his memory truly unites all the gedolei Yisrael shlit’a as well.

Avi Greenwald 10/12/2009 11:37
This week the sefer "Chanukas Avraham" was published on the matters of Chanukah and related matters, with never before published pearls of wisdom and chiddushim. The sefer was complied in memory of the Chairman of Degel HaTorah and one of the leaders of the teshuvah movement in Israel, Harav Abraham Ravitz z’l, who passed away less than a year ago.

The chiddushei Torah were collected by Harav Yitzchak Ravitz, his son, and the eldest of his grandchildren, Harav Yehoshua Zelig Diskin. The sefer contains chiddushim and pearls of wisdom from the gedolei hador shlit’a and roshei yeshivos, including Torah from Maran Hagaon Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv shlita, Maran Hagaon Rabbi Aharon Leib Steinman shlita, Maran HaGaon Rabbi Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz shlita, Maran HaGaon Rabbi Nissim Karelitz shlita and Maran HaGaon Rabbi Gershon Edelstein shlita. Rabbi Ravitz always consulted with them throughout his life and made great accomplishments in his long-standing public mission according to their instructions; they eagerly gave their chiddushim to be published for the first time in his sefer.

The sefer is divided into several parts: A section of aggadata based on matters of Chanukah, a section of Hilchos Chanukah, a section of chiddushim from his family, and a section of chiddushim from the deceased himself, the late Harav Ravitz, who served as a Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Ohr Somayach before he was called upon by the gedolei hador shlit’a to stand at the helm of the battles of chareidi Judaism in the Knesset, as Chairman of the Degel HaTorah faction and a Member of Knesset for two decades. Throughout his life he was careful to engage in Torah in all his free time.
