  • The Mission Continues

As in the past so it remains today - we were and still are under the selfsame commitment to adhere to the directions of the Gedolei Yisrael, who stand guard against breaches of purity threatening our camp. When we were required to ask – we asked. When we were instructed to depart – we left. The moment we are summoned back to raise the flag, every other consideration is pushed to the side and we answer: We are ready!

Satmar: Thousands Will Celebrate the Day of Rescue

The annual event to mark the day of rescue of the Satmar Rebbe ztz’l, author of VaYoel Moshe, will be held at the Western Plaza Hall near Williamsburg.

Yosef Feffer, New York 07/12/2009 17:22
Thousands of Satmar Chassidim are preparing for 21 Kislev, the day which is celebrated every year with a huge event, to commemorate the miraculous rescue of the holy Grand Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum of Satmar zy’a from the valley of the shadow of death, when he was rescued from the clutches of the Nazis at the concentration camp Bergen-Belsen and brought to Switzerland. This event is held every year in combination with the annual dinner for Satmar institutions in Williamsburg, which today have about eight thousand children bliah"r.

Thousands of chassidim gather every year to thank Hashem for the great miracle which was made not only for the Rebbe, but for all of Klal Yisrael, because the Rebbe went on to inspire Jews on U.S. soil for years after the Holocaust.

In previous years the big event was held in the Satmar community’s new Beis Midrash, but after that place became too small to contain all the Satmar Chassidim who came to attend, the askanim decided to rent a big hall, "Western Plaza,” which contains thousands of seats, and will serve as the grand hall for the dinner.

The askanim of Satmar Mosdos were already beginning to prepare for the dinner in Cheshvan, at the time of the beginning of the new “zman.” Every day the askanim are going to the homes of generous donors and parents of the students to raise funds to cover the high costs, as the deficit stands at several million dollars from a budget of nearly thirty million dollars.

In recent days, prior to the dinner, their resources were directed to the huge hall where the dinner will take place. The askanim spend day and night fixing up the place so it will be fitting for the important event, which is the central event for Satmar Chassidim.

To plan such a large event of this stature, along with everything it entails, is not an easy job, when one considers that the hall covers a vast area.

A temporary kitchen was built inside the hall, where the portions will be prepared for the participants, with places for washing hands, and at the entrance a special place to hang coats will be erected (that’s the way it is in America...)

The event will contain a sacred string of events, which will open with the entrance of the Rebbe into the Hall. During the event the Mosdos directors will give a report about the physical and spiritual condition of the institutions, and generous supporters who have contributed important sums will be honored by name.

This year the speaker of honor was brought from Antwerp, Hagaon Rabbi Avraham Ehrentrau shlita, one of the roshei yeshivos of Yeshivat Veilrik and Av Beis Din of Kahal Zichron Binyamin.

Satmar Chassidim are also looking forward to the holy address of the Grand Rabbi of Satmar shlita, who will speak about the holy day, the occasion of the dinner, and as in every year, inspire the public to continue in the path of the Baal HaNes, the Satmar Rebbe ztz’l, author of VaYoel Moshe.

At the end of the event there will be a chassidic dance in honor of the day.
