Demonstrations in Brazil: 'Peres = Hitler'
Dozens of Palestinians demonstrated in Brazil during the speech of Israeli President Shimon Peres and called him 'Hitler'. They furthermore painted a swastika on the Israeli flag and burned it. The GSS ordered Peres to cancel his appearance at the San Paolo Jewish Community Center
Dozens of Palestinians and anti-Israel activists demonstrated yesterday during a speech delivered by Israeli President Shimon Peres, who is currently visiting the south-American country. The protesters chanted denigrating slogans against Israel, called Peres 'Hitler' and burned the Israel flag.
As Peres was speaking before Israeli and Brazilian entrepreneurs inside the building, the protesters outside were holding large pictures of Peres, featured with Hitler's infamous black moustache. Another poster showed a Star of David, dripping with blood. The demonstrators chanted denigrating slogans against Israel and her leaders.
The GSS, due to the circumstances, ordered to tighten security around the president and large security forces awaited Peres upon his exit from the building in order to bring him safely to his hotel.
Peres was also forced to cancel his appearance at the Jewish Communities Assembly in San Paolo, which was attended by over 2,000 people, as a means of precaution. The GSS decided to cancel his participation due to the lax security standards of the organizers, which could have endangered the President's life.
After the incident, the President was asked if he was afraid. He answered: "I am not afraid; there are crazy people in every place. How many people demonstrated there? 40 people? You can easily find 40 crazy people in any given place". The President added that he will continue with his visit as planned.
