  • The Mission Continues

As in the past so it remains today - we were and still are under the selfsame commitment to adhere to the directions of the Gedolei Yisrael, who stand guard against breaches of purity threatening our camp. When we were required to ask – we asked. When we were instructed to depart – we left. The moment we are summoned back to raise the flag, every other consideration is pushed to the side and we answer: We are ready!

United Nations: Diabetes is a World Epidemic

In Israel, there has been a 130% increase in diabetes patients, with the total number standing at 700,000 people.

After an increase of 130% of diabetes patients in Israel alone in the last decade – an increase which is counted as part the 600% (!) worldwide increase of the disease over the past 15 years -  the United Nations has categorized diabetes as an epidemic this year. Until now, only infectious diseases were classified as epidemics by the UN.

Israel has a whopping 700,000 people suffering from diabetes this year. The Ministry of Health reports that 400,000 people have been officially diagnosed with the disease, while it estimates that another 300,000 have the disease, but do not yet know it.

Just 9 years ago, in 1999, there were only 300,000 diabetes patients in Israel. That means that in the last 9 years, there has been a 130% increase in the number of cases. Worldwide, there has been a 600% increase in the number of people suffering from diabetes over the last 15 years – with the total number standing at 260 million. Those cases account for 6% of the total adult population in the world.

In two days time, on Tuesday, Israel will mark the International Day of Diabetes in Tel Aviv, where new medical products and devices for treating diabetes will be on display, in hopes of improving the quality of life of Diabetes patients.
