Will Hitler's Childhood Home become a Museum?
The house that Hitler was born in has been put up for sale, and city officials fear that Neo-Nazis will turn the house into a shrine.
In the Austrian city Braunau-am-Inn, Adolf Hitler's childhood home has been put up for sale, at an asking price of 3.3 million dollars. Local authorities fear that fascist elements and neo-Nazis will attempt to buy the home and turn it into a shrine. The town council is interested in purchasing the property in order to have control over its future fate.
The Mayor of Braunau-am-Inn, told the British "Daily Mail", that he intends on petitioning the Austrian government for help in buying the property, since the city coffers do not have enough funds to cover the cost of the purchase.
The house is three stories high, and on the ground floor was once a pub called "Gasthof Zurn Pommer". It was on the second floor of the home, in a suite of rooms rented by Hitler's parents, that the evil dictator, yimach sh'mo, was born, in 1889. The family lived at the home until 1892, when they moved to Linz. Today, the home is still owned by descendants of the original owners of the pub. There is nothing inside the building that reveals anything about its history.
A rehabilitation institution rented out the two upper floors for the last 20 years, but has recently decided not to renew its lease. The current owner of the building, Gelinde Pommer, says that now is a good opportunity to sell her property, since the present tenants are vacating the premises.
