  • The Mission Continues

As in the past so it remains today - we were and still are under the selfsame commitment to adhere to the directions of the Gedolei Yisrael, who stand guard against breaches of purity threatening our camp. When we were required to ask – we asked. When we were instructed to depart – we left. The moment we are summoned back to raise the flag, every other consideration is pushed to the side and we answer: We are ready!

Drama in Borough Park: A Woman was Trapped in a Store Overnight

A woman was trapped overnight in a closed store. The “Shomrim” answered her call for help but the store owner could not be found.

Yosef Feffer, New York 28/10/2009 15:36
A drama unfolded last night in New York (Tuesday night, New York time) when a woman who was making purchases in a store on a main artery, 13th Avenue, was locked in the store for a long time, after it had been closed and locked up for the night.

The woman was unintentionally trapped in the store because no one knew she was there when the store owner locked up the shop, and she was stuck inside behind locked shutters and a heavily bolted door.

After a while, when she saw she would be locked in overnight, she tried banging on the window and to open the doors, but to no avail.

The incident could have ended in another way entirely, but it was solved in the end when passers-by heard her cries and discovered her predicament; they called for help to the Chevras “Shomrim.” They first tried to locate the store owner, but since it was taking a very long time, they tried to forcibly break into the store. However, the store was protected very well and they couldn’t break in. Only after a long time the store owner arrived and opened the doors, let the trapped woman out, and apologized to her. In Borough Park they concluded the story: “Hakol b’mekomo ba b’shalom”—a happy ending.
