Assad in Finland: 'Enough with Headlines, Start To Act'
In a press conference with the Finnish President, Assad expressed his opinion of Obama and his vision: "We agree with what Obama had said during his campaign; however these issues are extremely complex"
Syrian President Bashar Assad urges President Obama to speed up the peace process in the Middle East, and said that 'until now, we have only seen headlines' and no actual deeds.
Assad stated the comment at the conclusion of a meeting with his Finnish counterpart Tarja Halonen. Assad added that "Israel must choose between occupation and peace. These two do not go together".
In a joint press conference with Finnish President Tarja Halonen, Assad said that he agrees with Obama's campaign; however he said that the issues in the Middle East are extremely complex.
Assad furthermore said "until now we have only seen headlines, but we have not seen any actual discussions on the relevant issues".
The Syrian President said that "time is not working to the advantage of the peace process. We have to get to work immediately, and Europe can play an important role in the process".
Assad stated that "occupation and peace do not go together. It is unthinkable that a country will continue with occupation and, simultaneously, work for peace. Israel must choose between the two. We need an Israeli partner for peace".
