  • The Mission Continues

As in the past so it remains today - we were and still are under the selfsame commitment to adhere to the directions of the Gedolei Yisrael, who stand guard against breaches of purity threatening our camp. When we were required to ask – we asked. When we were instructed to depart – we left. The moment we are summoned back to raise the flag, every other consideration is pushed to the side and we answer: We are ready!

Historical Change in Eidah Chareidis: A woman who got divorced through the Israeli Rabbinate received marriage certificate from the Eidah

The Eidah conducted an in-depth research and decided to grant a wedding certificate to a woman who divorced through the Rabbinate

Aharon Roth 24/10/2009 21:04

This week, a staunch supporter of Torah institutions in Israel married for a second time. However, his wedding was different; his marriage certificate was granted by the Eidah despite that fact that his wife had received the get from her first husband through the Haifa Rabbinate.

Initially, when the couple turned to the Eidah in order to receive a marriage certificate, the Rabbanim of the Eidah refused as it is their policy not to recognize marriage certificates or gittin granted by the Israeli Rabbinate for various reasons.

The philanthropist did not want to forgo the opportunity to get married kadas vechadin, and did not wish to go ahead with his plans if the get was not one hundred percent kosher.

One of his close friends, who is a key figure in the Toldos Aharon court, turned to the Rabbanim of the Eidah and explained that the philanthropist is a G-d fearing person who generously supports Torah mosdos. Despite the fact that externally he does not look chareidi, he is extremely careful in all halachic issues and is a true yerei shamayim.

The Rabbanim at the Eidah decided to look into the case and conducted a thorough research during which they questioned the kallah, her fist husband, the eidim and all the rabbis who were involved in the get. After considering all sides, the Rabbanim of the Eidah decided to deviate from their policy this one time and granted the philanthropist and his future wife their wedding certificate.

This week, after maariv at the Yeshiva of the Toldos Avraham Yitzchak Rebbe shlita, the philanthropist married his kallah kadas vechadin. Several gedolim were honored with the reciting of the berachos under the chuppah: Rabbi Moshe Stern, Rabbi Shmuel Brandsdorfer and several rabbis of Toldos Aharon and Toldos Avraham Yitzchak.
