Huge Fire in Lakewood Hotel
Firefighters battled a fire all night at the Capital hotel in the Torah city of Lakewood, New Jersey. One man was killed – his identity has still not been verified.
Tens of fire fighting teams worked for most of the hours Saturday night to extinguish a huge fire that broke out in the Capital hotel in Lakewood. One man was killed in the blaze. The victim's name has still not been released.
Chareidi volunteers from "Hatzolah", "Chaverim", and other community organizations were on the scene to help treat the wounded, if any were rescued from the blaze, heaven forbid. Dozens of volunteers and area residents stood watching the flames at a safe distance.
Firefighters worked for hours to contain the fire, and only by early Sunday morning were they able to extinguish the flames. One policemen was lightly injured and transferred to the hospital for treatment.
Just before dawn, after the fire was out, the firefighters were able to enter the charred building to search room by room for victims. In one of the rooms, a body was discovered – according to an initial investigation, the body was found in the room where the fire started. The man's identity has not yet been verified.
