The President of Israel, Shimon Peres, made a speech at a Chanuka candle-lighting ceremony for policemen who were recognized for their outstanding work during recent events. "In the current reality the police are unfortunately required to act in cases of hooliganism and defiance against state authority based on political or ideological motives," Peres said, adding that "we would not be able to move forward as a people without one army taking orders from one source, based on a chain of command with no dualism."
