Defense Minister Ehud Barak ordered tonight (Thursday) to the IDF to publish the order for a temporary freeze on settlement construction in the entire West Bank territories, according to the government's decision yesterday.
The decree will be signed by the Commander of Central Command, General Avi Mizrahi. During a closed hearing that was held in the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said about the cabinet's decision yesterday that "this is a unilateral initiative of the Israeli government in coordination and with the understanding of the U.S., intending to advance the political process with the Palestinians. The decision imposes a very important enforcement task on the Defense Department, on the IDF, on the police, on the Shin Bet, and on the Civil Administration.
