Deputy Minister of Health Ordered to Continue Life Support for Brain-Dead Infant

The health care professionals in Israel are outraged over a special request made by Deputy Minister of Health, Rabbi Yaakov Litzman, to continue to treat an infant who has been diagnosed by doctors as brain-dead. The baby, who is hospitalized at the Schneider Children's Hospital in Petach Tikvah, is from a chareidi family who does not consider brain death as true death, but who follow the psak specifying that death is confirmed when a patient stops breathing.
