The office of the Finance Minister, Dr. Yuval Steinitz, issued a clear statement: "The Finance Minister never said he would do away with the drought tax – at any stage. What he did say, is that he still maintains the same position he held this past summer, that if this winter is particularly rainy, the rate and extent of the drought tax will be re-evaluated."
The notice said, that in the opinion of the Finance Minister, "Despite the burden placed on some of Israel's citizens by the drought tax – especially people who own pools and gardens – this is a necessary action which has lead to a significant decrease in water use. The inconvenience is overshadowed by the benefits to Israel's water reserves, after so many years of drought."
