No Texting While Driving in New York
A new law went into effect in New York State today, making it illegal to send text messages, or use a portable electronic device in any other manner, while driving. A person caught breaking the new law will only be fined if he has also committed a primary offense, such as speeding or disobeying a traffic signal. The fine can be as high as $150.
It is still permitted to use a GPS or a hands-free phone while driving in New York.
