The Minister of Public Security, Yitzchak Aharonovitch, said this evening that he is "ashamed to say that there are still policemen and prison guards who earn between 4500 and 5000 a month. It is impossible to support a family, and it is impossible to maintain Israeli society, on such a low salary."
"With regard to the budget," said Aharonovitch, speaking in the Knesset on behalf of the policemen and prison guards, "I made cuts, without mercy, in all the government ministries, except for Security, Education, and Welfare. The Ministry of Public Welfare was also forced to make cuts."
