U.N. Official Accused of Failing to Address Afghanistan Election Fraud

At a news conference in Kabul yesterday, Kai Eide, the special representative of the secretary-general for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, defended himself his acts during and after the Afghan elections on August 20. He admitted that widespread fraud took place, but denied that the elections process had been rigged to ensure that President Karzai received over 50 percent of the votes. (CNN)
