Yesterday, the trial of former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin began in Paris. The trial has been referred to as one of the most sensational trials of the century in France. The current Prime Minister Nicholas Sarkozy has accused de Villepin of forging documents to construe a hoax, intimating that Sarkozy was involved in a bribary scandal during the 2007 election campaign.
If de Villepin is indicted of the charges brought against him, he could face a sentence of up to 5 years in prison, and fine equivalent to $550,000 U.S. dollars.
