In the wake of the IAF plane crash this afternoon, army officials have stated that caution should be exercised when making speculations regarding the possible causes for the crash. "Asaf was an outstanding student in the pilot training course, and even in the more advanced stages of the course, he was one of the top students."
The pilot who was killed today, Asaf Ramon, was the son of the Israeli pilot and astronaut Ilan Ramon, who was killed in the explosion of the space shuttle "Columbia".
"The plane Asaf was flying does not have a history of technical failures, is maintained in perfect working order, and is considered to be a trustworthy aircraft. Asaf made dozens of flights since the course ended, and there nothing out of the ordinary characterized this particular flight."
