Washington JCC Café Shut Down after Treife Meat Discovered in Kitchen
R. Waxman 03/09/2009 09:24
The vigilance of the mashgiach on duty saved JCC café patrons from eating treife meat on Sunday night. The café owners were not on the premises, and one of the employees purchased 5 triefe steaks at a nearby Safeway supermarket. The steaks were still in the kitchen freezer when the mashgiach found them.
The café has been closed until the Vaad of Kashrut of Greater Washington can convene to discuss the case. The mashgiach says there has been a serious breach of trust, and that there is no way of knowing this type of transgression has not occurred in the past.
