Department of Health: Mexican Flu will not Delay Beginning of School Year

After a special meeting between Education Minister Gideon Sa'ar and Deputy Minister of Health Rabbi Yaakov Litzman, a decision was reached that the new school year in Israel will begin as scheduled, on September 1, despite the looming threat of a full blown outbreak of the Mexican flu.
However, a joint statement issued by the Ministries of Health and Education calls upon schools to maintain strict standards of hygiene, and clear guidelines were provided to the schools regarding the conditions under which a student or staff member who is absent due to illness may return to school.
