Transportation Minister Increased Funding for Handicapped Access to Public Transportation
The Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, Yisrael Katz, has decided to increase the budget allotted for making public transportation accessible to the handicapped – the new budget will be 75 million shekels, as opposed to the original sum of 50 million shekels.
Among the projects that local municipalities will implement, are: the construction of special ramps to allow wheelchair access to buses, signs indicating the presence of crosswalks for the handicapped population, building lower roadside curbs near bus stops and crosswalks, and the installation of traffic lights that emit sound for the benefit of the visually impaired.
