UN Marks First World Humanitarian Day in Geneva

Navi Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed concern over increased attacks against aid workers worldwide. Last year alone, 260 humanitarian aid workers were victims of kidnappings and attacks. Pillay said," With governments and militaries increasingly using development work to win the 'hearts and minds' of people in conflict situations, aid workers have become the preferred and easy targets of militant groups looking to strike back."
