Media Blackout During Afghan Election
R. Waxman 19/08/2009 07:50
In preparation for presidential election day in Afghanistan tomorrow, Thursday, the Afghan government has asked all local and international media agencies not to broadcast any reports about violence occurring that day. It is feared that Taliban suicide bombers will attempt to disrupt the election process, and they have threatened to cut off the fingers of anyone caught voting. The Afghan government hopes that its 17 million voters will be able to exercise their right to vote, without fear of the terrorist bombing attacks that have recently killed and injured tens of Afghan citizens.
