Secular Kibbutz Transformed into Religious Town
The last members of floundering Kibbutz Retamim have moved to neighboring Kibbutz Revivim, and 30 religious families have taken their places. Retamim, approximately 20 kilometers south of Be'er Sheva, is now zoned as a religious community, and through the cooperation of the Regional Council, the Agricultural Ministry, the Israel Lands Authority, the Cooperative Associations Registrar, and the Prime Minister’s Office, a group called Ohr National Missions has sent the initial group of pioneering families to revitalize Retamim.
The long term goal is to increase the population of Retamim to 300 families, which will make it one of the largest communities in the northern Negev. (Artuz 7)
