Iran Confirms Holding 3 US Hikers

The US State Department announced that the US has received official confirmation that Iran has detained 3 American hikers. Shane Bauer and Josh Fattel, 27, and Sarah Shourd, 26, were arrested by Iranian authorities after crossing the border into Iran. The 3 had been hiking in the Iraqi Kurdistan mountains, and were arrested 12 days ago for “illegal entry” into Iran. The US has not diplomatic relations with Iran, so all communication with the Iranian government is being conducted through a Swiss intermediary. (CNN)
