Education Minister, Gidon Saar, suggested obligating parties to hole open primaries or to integrate a method of regional elections into the Knesset election process.
In a speech he gave during the Presidential Democratic Convention, the Minister of Education said that, "The greatest danger of Democracy is the lack of the public's belief that it can actually make a difference, in it's ability to have an influence, and that is an expression of their despair with the Democratic process." According to Saar, "We live under a semblance of Democratic rule, in which a percentage of the Knesset members, public officials, were not in fact elected by the public. That fact causes the public to feel alienated from their leaders, and to perceive that the elected officials do not really represent public opinion."
