Jewish Schools in Great Britain to Change Admission Requirements
After a court ruled that a Jewish Day School in north-west London had violated the Race Relations Act, by denying a student entry because his mother's conversion was not considered valid, efforts were made to devise a more politically correct method of screening school applicants. Working with the Office of the Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, the London Beit Din is writing a religious observance test which would judge a student's eligibility based on his level of religious observance, and not on the details of his Jewish descent.
