In I got It!
The Doctor, the Promise, and the Hospital
He authored a book of medicine that was termed ‘the Book of Assaf’, or ‘The Study of Medicine’. The book was based on traditions from the days of Shes (son of Noach) and was not influenced by Arab medicine.
He was famous, mainly, for the oath that he authored, and by which anyone who works in the medical profession are required to go by: to help the poor and the rich in the same measure, and not to betray the trust of those who seek their help - “… and not to reveal the secret of the man who trusted you”.
In the promise he also taught about keeping away from sin, as it causes illness, and he outlined the attitude doctors should have about themselves – as Heavenly messengers.
The Doctor’s Oath that is used nowadays has been changed completely, and its source is Greek. The Name of G-d – is not mentioned in it…
