In I got It!
As swift as Naftali – as fleet-footed as Asahel
“Asahel was as fleet-footed as a deer racing through the fields.”
Asahel was the brother of Yoav and Avishai, the sons of Tsruyah, brother of King David. The three brothers were generals in Dovid haMelech’s army.
Chazal, in describing Asahel’s light-footedness, tell of how he would run through a field of wheat – his steps were so light that he ran over the field, the heads of wheat not even bowing from his weight.
According to the Ari haKodosh, Asahel’s neshoma burned so brightly in him that his body flew through the air – he was the most fleet-footed to ever live.
“Asahel was as fleet-footed as a deer racing through the fields.”
The swiftest ever runner in the world was Naftali ben Yaakov Avinu, who ran a distance of 1050 km (525km in each direction) from the Machpeila Cave in Chevron to Goshen, Egypt and back. This was in order to bring the document of sale in which was written that Eisav had sold his share in the Cave; therefore the remaining burial place rightfully belonged to Yaakov Avinu.
If we calculate the time it took for Naftali to return to his brothers, corresponding to the distance covered, it emerges that the speed at which he ran equalled that of a advanced jet aeroplane.
